Sceptre Preservation Limited Liability Partnership (LLP)

Sceptre Preservation LLP consists of a group of members who each own a share in Sceptre. It started in its original form in 1986 when 10 sailing friends from the North of England purchased Sceptre. Since then, the number of members has varied between 15 and 23. Members now span the UK, with one or two new members usually joining each year. The last founder member passed on his share in 2002. We are proud of our continuity and the way in which the syndicate has survived. Many new friendships are made and members reap great benefits from sailing as part of a dedicated and experienced team.

Prior to 2004 the preservation, chartering and use of Sceptre was through a very informal arrangement. In 2004 the members compiled a constitution giving a written framework of how to conduct our affairs. We hope this makes members and prospective members more at ease and it reflects that the LLP now has a broader base than the first group who formed the Sceptre Preservation Society in 1986.

The LLP was incorporated in May 2006, with the members electing a Chairman, a Secretary, a Treasurer, a Sailing Secretary and a Preservation Secretary.  The LLP has few rules.  The only qualification to membership is ownership of one share in Sceptre.  All members are expected to contribute to our endeavour of ensuring that this fine yacht, a true classic of British Yacht Racing heritage, is maintained in good order and stays sailing in UK waters.

We only have one formal meeting each year, the AGM; other meetings are convened as and when necessary, amongst those interested in the points under review.  Other events are organised, such as an annual Dinner, and of course as much excellent sailing with good company as we can find time for.  For some that is several weeks a year, for others, an odd weekend.
